Westside Little League Tournament Team Player Selection Procedures
It is critical to note that being named to represent Westside Little League on a tournament team is a privilege and not a right. It should reward those players who have had a successful season on the field, and are being recognized for their efforts.
Tournament Team Player Selections: The Player Agent shall be responsible for conducting the selection process for the five WSLL tournament teams. To be eligible to participate on one of these teams, a player must have participated in 60% or more of the games played by his/her team by June 15th as per Little League rules. Players being considered for a tournament team must be available to participate in the practice schedule and game schedule as set out by the manager of that respective team.
Voting Process:
The player agent will collect votes from the following four groups: Players, Managers, Coaches and Board of Directors. Each group will vote for the tournament team(s) for their age respective division except the board of directors will vote for all teams.
Ballots:
The ballots will list all players who are league age eligible to be placed on the team. (ie the ballot for the 10-9 year old team will list all 10 & 9 year olds in the league)
The Players’ Vote:
The players will vote for up to six players on each ballot their team provides players for.
The Managers’ Vote:
The managers will vote for up to 12 players on each ballot their team provides players for.
The Coaches’ Vote:
The coaches will vote for up to 12 players on each ballot their team provides players for. Only two coaches per team will vote, if a team only has one coach they will only get one vote.
The Board of Directors’ Vote:
The Directors will vote for up to 12 players on all ballots.
Counting of the Ballots:
The player agent and one director will count the ballots from each group. The player receiving the most votes will be ranked one and on down the line. The ranking from each group will be totaled together. The eleven players with the lowest score will be assigned to the team. (ie Tommy Tentpeg was voted and ranked 1st on the players vote, 3rd on the managers’ vote, 5th on the coaches’ vote and 2nd on the directors’ vote. Tommy’s score would be 11) The lowest score possible would be four.
If one or more players are not ranked by one of the groups their ranking will be the next available ranking. (ie if one of the groups’ rankings was 1-40 and there are 3 players not on their ranking all three players would be ranked 41)
If a manager desires to have 12 players on the team, the manager can request through the player agent to have an additional player added to the team. The player next on the score list will be added.
If two or more players are tied on the score list for the last spot on a team, the player with the best board of directors’ ranking will be named to the team.
If a player is elected to two tournament teams, the player will decide which team to play on. Little League rules prohibit a player from playing on two tournament teams.
